WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
SATURDAY 06/21 DAY ONE
SHAPING THE OPENING FOR THE SHOW (PREMISE)
When deconstructing information from an opening it’s advantageous to be proactive in creating more fleshed out and richer ideas. We will practice not only how to shape the information for the show using different openings but also how to listen for the signature dishes that are well developed and memorable so that pulling premises becomes much easier.
INITIATING THE PREMISE PRESENTATION
When we initiate ideas from an opening we are showing the audience the clever and funny way in which we configured the information from the opening and are presenting it to them. This makes the opening compartment of a premise based scene exciting. We will explore four potential angles to configure the information so that you can build confidence in your scene after showing the audience your presentation of the idea. This workshop makes premise so much easier and you’ll never look at it the same again. It’s my most popular workshop in LA.
COMEDY AS A BENIGN SOCIAL VIOLATION
There’s many different theories of why we laugh when we watch comedy. However the benign social violation is one of the ones that works really well with improvisational comedy. Learn how harmlessly violating the norms of a situation can help make your scenes clearer and funnier.
SATURDAY 06/21 DAY TWO
BEING WELL OBSERVED AND MOMENT TO MOMENT
This is a heady and high concept workshop that will help you get in touch with your truth of how you see the world and what you find funny about it. You will also learn the intricacies of moment to moment to make sure nothing ever gets past you and you’re always in a present state of improvisation.
FINDING THE FUNNY OF FACT BEFORE FICTION
A highly focused and challenging scene work class for experienced improvisers looking for refinery in grounded scene work. It’s easy in improv to let details slide and move from fact (plausible, conceivable) into fiction (abstract and/or absurd) too quickly.
Before we can start to manipulate the laws of reality for a joke I think we should be able to fully represent the well observed truths and characteristics of what is funny about being a human being on Earth today.
FINAL NOTES AND THE HAROLD.

What is long form improv?
Long form improv focuses on more expansive, narrative-driven scenes made up on the spot, absurd storylines, deeper characters and quick witted humor. It’s kind of like a big, playful collaboration that culminates in a shared experience. And anyone can do it!
Think: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, The Office
Whether you’re excited to learn long form improv, want to improve your people skills or are curious to get started in comedy, our classes are taught by enthusiastic instructors currently working in the industry who help foster a fun, dynamic and supportive environment for new and experienced improvisers alike! What People Are Saying
“Cristina has been such an impactful teacher. She's helped me break out of my comedy shell and really get what it means to be an improv performer. I can't speak highly enough of her constructive and supportive teaching style. Using small groups she put concepts into practice and helped us really drill in those ideas with active learning. 10/10. 5 Stars. Cool person. Take classes at Indie Prov if you wanna be good at stuff.”
— Dan Holly, improviser, comedian, educator
“My journey in improv got much more serious/professional when I took a class with Cristina. Her teaching style was fun, supportive, but helped me to grow much faster than I have with other improv teachers. She saw my potential and helped me pinpoint my strengths and weaknesses to become a stronger improviser within the span of just a few weeks.”
Caity Holly, improviser
“Cristina was a very well-rounded instructor who taught a variety of improv fundamentals. Personally, I thought that her focus on grounding our characters in the scene’s reality was the most helpful for myself and the entire class.”
— Lili Loughlin, actor, improviser
“ Cristina provides insightful feedback and brings experience from multiple improv styles. She creates an environment where you feel real growth after each class! She is supportive yet challenging in the best way, keeping you accountable to your own progress.”
— Ian Darby, improviser, comedian
